One of our specializations is in Agriculture. We started the company to invest in land and farming. Literally “Field Invest”. The outlook is clear. Rising populations and increased propsperity mean that more people will be eating more food. The supply of farmland is finite and prices of land will rise. Improving that land by addressing issues of water supply, by using fertilizers and by using better technology or science or biotechnology, to increase yields and improve productivity are all likely to increase the value of the land further, as well as moving towards the key objective of feeding more people, with better food.
Since “farmers” first began growing crops, thousands of years ago, quality farmland has been a valuable asset. Farmland is a very limited resource. With increasing demand for better food, and crucially more meat, we expect that agricultural land values will continue to increase for many years. As well as being an appreciating asset, farmland also offers investors diversification, inflation and exposure to a relatively liquid asset which is genuinely uncorrelated to financial markets.
